The education of geography as a separate subject has a more than 100 year long history at the University of Szeged. The first department dedicated to physical geography was founded in 1964. Over the years, the name of the department has changed several times. Still, our mission stayed the same: promotion of environmental sustainability, aiding the mitigation of natural hazards, and active contribution to informed policy decisions through innovative research, education and community engagement. We are dedicated to equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address local, regional and global environmental challenges and to enhance their critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills through practical learning, fieldwork, and collaborative projects.
