Koch Sándor Mineral collection

The history of the Sándor Koch Mineral Collection is closely intertwined with the history of the Department of Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Petrology of the University of Szeged.

The mineral collection basically consists of two main units. In the present glass cabinets standing by the walls a systematic collection can be found. In the 15 cabinets 1156 specimens of the approximately 400 exhibited mineral species can be found according to the following classification:

I. Native elements;

II. Sulphides and sulpho-salts;

III. Oxides, hydroxides;

IV. Phosphates and related compounds;

V. Sulphates and related compounds;

VI. Carbonates, borates, nitrates;

VII. Halides;

VIII. Organic minerals.
